Industry sources indicated on Thursday that the launch of Apple's inaugural foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, has spurred a rise in domestic sales of Samsung Electronics' new Galaxy Z foldable devices in South Korea. Sources reported that within the seven days after the iPhone Duo's release last week, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 witnessed approximately a 10% increase in sales within the country.

It is believed this uptick can be partly attributed to consumers who had postponed their purchases while awaiting Apple's new product, ultimately opting for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Sources noted that the pricing and hardware specifications of the iPhone Duo also factored into the purchasing considerations of South Korean consumers.

The 256GB model of the iPhone Duo is priced at 3.29 million won (around $2,380) in South Korea, which is over 1 million won more expensive than the 256GB version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. Meanwhile, the 2TB variant of the iPhone Duo carries a price tag of 5.09 million won. The price disparity in South Korea is notably greater than that seen in the United States, where the difference in price between the 256GB versions of these two smartphones is approximately $100.
