A guest has publicly shared her frustration after discovering her designer handbag was left hanging on her hotel room door handle in the middle of the night, following a request for staff to bring it inside.

According to reports on September 21, a woman identified by the surname Fang and her husband were staying at a hotel in Shanghai that charges over 4,000 yuan per night. Around 12:30 a.m. on September 19, the couple stepped out for a late-night meal. As heavy rain was pouring at the time, Fang worried her Hermes International SA bag might get damaged by the weather. She therefore asked hotel staff to return the bag to her room.

"When we came back to the hotel around 2 a.m., we found the bag hanging on the door handle. I was quite upset, because my ID and bank cards were inside. It would have been a real problem if someone had taken it," Fang said.

Upon inquiring, Fang received an apology from the hotel's duty manager, who explained that the room had the 'Do Not Disturb' mode switched on, which is why staff did not place the bag inside. The hotel offered a small gift and a discount on the room rate as compensation. Fang declined the rate reduction, but urged the hotel to strengthen its management procedures.

The property in question is reported to be the Shanghai Tower J Hotel, a luxury establishment located within the Shanghai Tower. In response to the incident, a customer service representative from the hotel told the BUG program, "We are in contact with the guest and have already apologized. As for other details, we cannot disclose them further due to guest privacy protection."

Public records indicate that the 'Tian Zhi Jin' restaurant on the 120th floor of the Shanghai Tower J Hotel was recognized by Guinness World Records in February 2022 as the highest restaurant inside a building. The hotel was jointly developed by Jinjiang International Group, Shanghai Urban Investment, and Shanghai Construction Group. Planning began in 2010, and the property started soft internal operations on December 28, 2020. Its 'J' logo combines a white magnolia pattern with the initials of Jinjiang, and the hotel displays over a thousand pieces of artwork. It also offers 24-hour personalized butler services and a smart room system.
