Wal-Mart China announced on the morning of September 22 that Sean Jackson, currently Senior Vice President of Non-Food Merchandising at Sam's Club U.S., will take on an international assignment and join the Wal-Mart China team as Chief Merchandising Officer of Sam's Club, reporting directly to Liu Peng, President of the Sam's Club business unit. Meanwhile, Amber Bynum, currently Vice President of Wal-Mart China and head of Non-Food Merchandising at Sam's Club, will be transferred to serve as Chief Merchandising Officer of Wal-Mart Stores, reporting directly to Zhu Jun, President of the Wal-Mart Stores business unit.

Wal-Mart China stated that Sam's Club is currently in a period of rapid business expansion, while the transformation of Wal-Mart Stores has begun to show early results with strong growth momentum. The merchandising teams of both business formats share the crucial mission of building customer and member trust through product strength and driving business growth through differentiated value. This appointment is a significant step for Wal-Mart China to deepen its presence in the Chinese market, further strengthen the professional capabilities of the dual-format merchandising organizations, and promote synergy in global merchandise resources.

Sean Jackson brings more than three decades of experience in the retail industry and currently oversees non-food merchandising for Sam's Club U.S., covering core categories such as home goods, hardlines, technology products, office supplies, entertainment, apparel, and seasonal items. Previously, he also led the consumables and health and wellness merchandising teams at Sam's Club U.S. Before joining Sam's Club, Sean held senior merchandising leadership roles at Linens 'n Things and Foley's department stores.

Sean will coordinate the handover with Neil Maffey, Acting Chief Merchandising Officer of Sam's Club, and will formally assume his duties after completing local business training in China, while Neil will continue to provide strategic support for the ongoing development of the Sam's Club business as a full-time advisor. Amber Bynum, who has spent over a decade at Wal-Mart and held key management roles across global sourcing in health and wellness, consumables, and retail operations, will complete her handover within the coming month and officially assume her new position in mid-October.
