Bank of China Chairman Ge Haijiao carried out a work inspection in Morocco from September 14 to 15 local time, engaging in in-depth discussions with political and business leaders on topics such as implementing the important consensus of the two countries' leaders, serving Morocco's industrial transformation, and expanding bilateral trade and two-way investment.
On the 14th, Ge Haijiao held talks with Abdellatif Jouahri, Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib (the central bank of Morocco). He stated that during Bank of China's decade-long presence in Morocco, the bank has conducted compliant operations, fully leveraged its role as a financial bridge, and actively served the broader bilateral economic and trade cooperation framework. Bank of China will rely on its distinctive strengths to drive Morocco's industrial transformation and upgrading, support more Chinese enterprises in seizing investment opportunities in the country, and continuously broaden the use of the renminbi in Morocco, helping to elevate China-Morocco economic and trade cooperation to higher levels, deeper dimensions, and broader fields.
Jouahri positively assessed Bank of China's achievements in global operations, expressing willingness to further strengthen communication and coordination. Both parties agreed to jointly explore areas such as renminbi clearing and settlement, foreign exchange reserve asset allocation, and financial market development, aiming to deliver more practical results in bilateral cooperation.
Attijariwafa Bank, Morocco's largest and Africa's leading comprehensive financial group, has been deeply rooted in the African market for over a century. On the 15th, Ge Haijiao met with Mohamed El Kettani, Chairman and CEO of Attijariwafa Bank, to discuss deepening their partnership. He emphasized that Bank of China has always regarded Attijariwafa Bank as one of its most important partners in Africa. With nearly 60 years of collaboration, the two institutions have achieved complementary layouts and fruitful results. Bank of China will continue to expand the scope and elevate the level of cooperation with Attijariwafa Bank and its subsidiaries, steadily growing renminbi business partnerships in francophone African countries, and work hand-in-hand to provide superior, efficient financial services for Chinese enterprises expanding abroad as well as Moroccan companies operating in China.
Kettani noted that Attijariwafa Bank has maintained a close cooperative relationship with Bank of China over the long term. He expressed hope to continue deepening interactions in areas such as renminbi business, project financing, and capital markets, jointly serving Chinese and African corporate clients and continuously building a benchmark for financial institution cooperation between China and Morocco.
During the visit, Ge Haijiao also held talks with Yu Jinsong, Chinese Ambassador to Morocco. Both parties agreed that in recent years, bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Morocco has continued to develop rapidly, with an increasing number of Chinese enterprises conducting business in Morocco, pointing to vast prospects for bilateral cooperation. Through multi-tiered, comprehensive, high-quality financial services, they aim to practically expand mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in areas such as new energy, the digital economy, and green development, bringing bilateral economic and trade relations to a new level.
