Air China Reports 11.3% Year-On-Year Growth in August Passenger Traffic

Air China Limited (601111.SH) has released its latest operational data for August, revealing a robust year-on-year increase in both capacity and traffic metrics. The airline's consolidated passenger capacity, measured by available seat kilometers, climbed 6.3% compared to the same period last year.

Passenger turnover, calculated using revenue passenger kilometers, surged 11.3% year-on-year, outpacing the capacity growth. Domestically, capacity rose 6.2% while traffic increased 10.3%. On international routes, capacity expanded 7.7% and traffic jumped 15.4%, highlighting particularly strong demand. Conversely, regional routes saw a decline, with capacity down 8.1% and traffic falling 6.0%.

Overall, the average passenger load factor reached 87.7%, marking a significant improvement of 4.0 percentage points year-on-year. This metric improved across all segments, with domestic routes up 3.3 percentage points, international routes up 5.7 percentage points, and regional routes up 1.9 percentage points.

Turning to cargo operations, the company's cargo capacity, measured by available freight tonne kilometers, increased 8.1% year-on-year. Cargo and mail turnover, based on revenue freight tonne kilometers, grew 9.2%. The cargo load factor stood at 42.5%, representing an improvement of 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous year.
