5. Opening Summary

Hong Kong equities kicked off the session on the front foot, with the Hang Seng Index advancing more than 0.5% to stay above the 25,000 mark. Investors responded positively to overnight gains in U.S. tech peers and signs of steady mainland inflows, while the China Enterprises gauge and the Tech Index also opened in positive territory.

Large-cap internet and hardware leaders powered early gains. Tencent climbed nearly 3% after recent product launch headlines, while Alibaba, Baidu and JD all rose around 2%. Chipmakers extended their rebound; SMIC and Hua Hong each added over 2%, underpinning the broader tech strength.

Notable movers included Montage Technology, surging almost 12% on sustained AI-chip enthusiasm, with fellow semiconductor names MINIMAX-W and ILUVATAR CoreX also sharply higher. On the downside, ZTO Express slid more than 6%, tracking weakness in logistics plays, and COSCO Shipping Energy fell nearly 5% as oil freight rates eased.

Theme-wise, AI hardware, semiconductors and platform tech shares dominated activity, while port operators and energy transporters lagged. No major IPOs debuted this morning, but traders remain watchful for upcoming listings tied to the year-end pipeline.
