Following a recent selloff in UK government bonds, banking professionals in London are using their personal accounts to make substantial purchases of domestic debt, with the gilt maturing in January 2028 emerging as the preferred choice.
Data from Barclays shows that this particular bond was the most-bought UK gilt among retail investors in August. The trend is also confirmed by Hargreaves Lansdown, the UK's largest retail investment platform, which lists it as the most popular instrument, with overall gilt purchases on the platform climbing by roughly 50% over the past two weeks.
