Mainland A-Share Indices Edge Higher in Morning Session as Semiconductor Supply Chain Surges

On September 15, mainland A-shares saw a volatile morning session, with the three major benchmarks initially dipping before staging a modest recovery. The Shenzhen Component Index was the first to turn positive, as a wave of buying swept through concept stocks including copper-clad laminates, tungsten hexafluoride, electronic fabrics, fiberglass, HBM circuit boards, and glass substrates. Meanwhile, sectors such as catering and tourism, retail, and agriculture faced downward pressure, while shipping and chemical industries showed relative strength.

Hong Kong markets presented a mixed picture at the open, with the Hang Seng Index under some pressure while the Hang Seng Tech Index posted modest gains. Heavyweight internet and technology names, along with chip and semiconductor stocks, staged a collective rebound. In the bond market, treasury futures moved higher across the board. On the commodity front, most domestic futures contracts traded lower.

Key Market Indicators:

A-Shares: As of the latest update, the Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.07%, the Shenzhen Component Index advanced 0.26%, and the ChiNext Index gained 0.17%.

Hong Kong Stocks: The Hang Seng Index fell 0.34%, while the Hang Seng Tech Index climbed 0.72%.

Bond Market: Treasury futures rebounded across the board, with all major contracts trading higher.

Commodities: Most domestic commodity futures declined. Crude oil continued its sharp rally, surging over 6%, while asphalt gained more than 2%. Fuel oil and coking coal each rose around 1%. Select products like alumina, rebar, and tin edged higher. On the downside, stainless steel, hot-rolled coils, manganese silicon, soybean meal, iron ore, industrial silicon, and polysilicon all fell. Caustic soda, palladium, eggs, nickel, container shipping index, copper, gold, wood pulp, silver, platinum, rubber, and rapeseed dropped over 1%, while glass, tin, and lithium carbonate tumbled more than 2%.

Fiberglass concept stocks rallied sharply, with Grace Fabric Technology Co., Ltd. hitting the daily limit up. Other names including Sinoma Science & Technology Co., Ltd., China Jushi Co., Ltd., and several others followed the uptrend.

The electronic fabric segment also gained momentum, with China Jushi Co., Ltd., Grace Fabric Technology Co., Ltd., and Sinoma Science & Technology Co., Ltd. all moving higher. Market reports indicated that a fresh round of price hikes for electronic yarn and fabric began in early September.

PCB-related concepts remained active, with Ultrasonic Electronics extending its winning streak to five sessions over seven trading days. Huazheng New Materials had previously achieved three limit-ups in seven sessions. Aohong Electronics touched the daily limit, with Fangbang Shares, Nanya New Materials, Xingsen Technology, and Mankun Technology all following suit.

MLCC concepts fluctuated higher, with Shuangxing New Materials notching a third consecutive limit-up. Torch Electronics, Three-ring Group, and Sidike also gained. Reports emerged that Murata Manufacturing, the global MLCC leader, has signaled clear capacity expansion plans. According to Nikkei, Murata intends to boost its multilayer ceramic capacitor production capacity by 20% by fiscal year 2027 (April 2027 to March 2028) compared to current levels.

The agriculture sector resumed its correction, with Xinnong Development falling to a second straight limit-down. Other losers included Guotou Fengle, Shennong Seed Industry, Honghui Fruit, Xuerong Bio, and Kangnong Seed Industry.

Tourism stocks also dropped in early trading, with Tianmu Lake hitting the limit down and Guilin Tourism approaching that level. Yunnan Tourism, Zhangjiajie, Qujiang Cultural Tourism, and Western Tourism all declined swiftly.

The automobile segment fluctuated actively, with Ankai Automobile reaching a second consecutive limit-up. Zhongtai Automobile and Shanshan Hi-Tech approached their daily limits, while Haima Automobile, Dongfeng Motor, and Zhongtong Bus all advanced. GAC Group announced plans to acquire shares in a joint-venture vehicle company held by FAW Group through a share issuance.

Tungsten-related concepts performed well, with Xianglu Tungsten hitting the limit up. Zhangyuan Tungsten, China Tungsten Hi-Tech, and Xiamen Tungsten all followed higher. Reports indicated that the price of ammonium paratungstate (APT), a core intermediate in the tungsten supply chain, has surged ninefold in Rotterdam markets over just 18 months.

Cybersecurity concept stocks opened sharply higher, with Zhongxin Security gapping up to the limit for a fourth consecutive session. Qiming Information also hit the limit at auction. Tianrongxin, Yongxin Zhicheng, Zhongfu Information, and Haohan Deep Trading all opened more than 5% higher.

Market reports suggested that NVIDIA, Palantir, and Booz Allen Hamilton are demanding new security guarantees from OpenAI and Anthropic, while also requesting reduced or discontinued use of the two companies' most advanced AI models.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened 0.14% lower, with the ChiNext Index down 0.14%. Media, automotive, oil and gas, cybersecurity, and big data segments showed activity, while optical communications faced adjustments.
