XIMEI RESOURCES Surges Past 10% in Afternoon Trade as Congo Supply Disruption Lifts Prices to Record-High Interim Results

XIMEI RESOURCES (09936) climbed more than 10% in the afternoon session, last trading 10.52% higher at HK$14.50 with turnover reaching HK$13.395 million.

The price surge comes amid lingering supply chain disruptions from the Rubaya coltan mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which suffered two severe landslides in January and March 2026 due to heavy rainfall, forcing a complete halt to operations. The mine accounts for over 15% of global supply, triggering widespread concerns over tightening availability. Coltan prices have since spiked, surging 46% month-on-month in February before jumping another 87% in March, with the ripple effects still reverberating through the industry value chain.

According to a research note from SDIC Securities International, XIMEI RESOURCES posted all-time highs in revenue, gross profit, net profit, and earnings per share for the first half of the year. The outperformance was driven by multiple factors: global tantalum supply disruptions pushing product prices upward, robust downstream demand from high-growth sectors including AI semiconductors, optical communications, aerospace, and superconductors, and a rising share of high value-added products that improved the product mix and boosted gross margins.

The broker maintains a positive outlook, citing the company's position as one of the world's leading tantalum-niobium smelters, well-placed to capitalize on structural demand tailwinds from computing power, optical modules, superconductors, and aerospace applications.
