China has officially greenlit comprehensive hydrogen energy application pilot projects in five urban clusters, marking a significant step toward large-scale development of the nation's hydrogen sector.

The approval, confirmed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and reported by CCTV News on September 17, signals a new chapter for the industry's commercialization and integration.

Among the selected regions, two clusters will focus primarily on fuel cell vehicles, namely the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The remaining three clusters, including the Northeast-Yangtze River Delta, Xinjiang-Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, and the Yellow River Bend-Central Plains region, are designated to prioritize industrial applications in their hydrogen energy pilot efforts.
