Paramount Skydance (PSKY) is seeking a nearly $1.9 billion bond from states and the Writers Guild, challenging its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), with the US Justice Department urging a federal judge to require the bond, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

Paramount wants the $1.9 billion bond to cover potential delay fees, with the company required to pay about $7 million a day if the deal does not close by the end of September, according to the report.

The DOJ said federal law requires the states and guild to post a bond, but did not take a position on the amount. Meanwhile, the plaintiffs argued Paramount waived its right to one by agreeing to delay the deal until June 2027.

The California-led lawsuits, joined by the Writers Guild, are set for trial next March and remain the only impediment to closing the deal after Paramount secured clearance in nearly 70 jurisdictions, Bloomberg added.

Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
