0727 ET - Cryptocurrency companies are facing a more volatile regulatory environment as a result of the Clarity Act's failure to pass a procedural Senate vote, Bitget Chief Executive Gracy Chen says. The crypto-friendly legislation fell 11 votes short of progressing through the upper house Tuesday. Though the Securities and Exchange Commission is moving to establish market structure rules regulating crypto exchanges, decisions by government agencies are vulnerable to administration changes, Chen says. "Building against rules that could change under a future administration is a very different investment decision from building against legislation," Chen says. "Firms will still invest in the U.S., but will do it more cautiously." Coinbase and Robinhood rise around 0.5% premarket, while Hyperliquid Strategies adds 1% after shares in the exchanges fell sharply Tuesday. (josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)

0525 ET - AstraZeneca is due to report results on a number of late-stage clinical trials next year that could improve investors' confidence in its ability to continue to grow beyond 2030, analysts at J.P. Morgan say. The U.K. drugmaker has the busiest schedule of pipeline newsflow in the sector over the next 18 months, the analysts say in a research note. Two late-stage trials in breast and lung cancer are among the most highly anticipated. But AstraZeneca is also due to release data on a cholesterol pill, combinations including its diabetes, heart and kidney medicine Farxiga, and other oncology drugs, the analysts add. These trials could offer more than $10 billion in potential peak annual sales and should improve confidence in AstraZeneca's long-term outlook, according to JPM. Shares rise 0.8% to 122.10 pounds. 0507 ET - AstraZeneca can meet its 2030 revenue target even if a highly anticipated lung-cancer clinical trial fails, and continue to grow thereafter, analysts at UBS say in a research note. A pullback in the U.K. drugmaker's stock after recent failures of late-stage studies and merger speculation seems overdone, according to UBS. There is some degree of uncertainty over whether AstraZeneca's lung-cancer study will lead to a clinically meaningful result, but a miss wouldn't compromise the company's $80 billion 2030 revenue target, the analysts say. The company can grow beyond 2030 despite some major drugs going off patent and still has drugs in its pipeline with potential to generate multibillion-dollar annual sales, they add. UBS cuts its target price for the stock to 152 pounds from 176 pounds. Shares rise 0.7% to 122 pounds. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)

2350 ET - The Thai hospital sector will likely post stronger results in 2H compared with 1H, thanks to factors including a rise in respiratory cases and pent-up demand from the Middle East, say DBS Group Research analysts in a note. A respiratory illness outbreak in 3Q is likely to support Thai patient revenue recovery, they say, noting that combined influenza, Covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus cases grew around 48% from a year earlier over the July to August period. Pent-up demand from Middle East patients and the normalization of Cambodian patient revenue from a low base starting in July should bolster the Thai hospital sector, the analysts add. The sector's valuation remains attractive at around 19.4X 2026 price-to-earnings ratio. DBS's top picks include Bumrungrad Hospital and Praram 9 Hospital.
