Lockheed Martin (LMT) F-35 fighter jet components that were being shipped from Australia to the US for repairs were diverted to Hong Kong this year, prompting an investigation by the US House Armed Services Committee, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing a committee spokesperson.

On Friday, Politico reported that the F-35 parts, which an intermediary was transporting on behalf of Lockheed Martin, ended up in Hong Kong this year, raising concerns that China could gain access to sensitive components of the fighter jet.

Bloomberg said the Pentagon's F-35 Joint Program Office is working with US authorities to retrieve the components and investigate the incident. The committee has received multiple briefings and is continuing to investigate the incident, Bloomberg added.

The House Armed Services Committee did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
