GE Aerospace will invest $225 million in modernizing its research center in Niskayuna, N.Y.

The investment will add 75 full-time jobs over five years and strengthen the company's research capacity, the company said, adding that the project should support its execution of advanced technology projects with federal agencies including the Department of Energy and Department of Defense.

The company said Monday that the state of New York is committing $8.4 million in tax credits and the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority is adding local incentives worth $5.3 million.

"The future of flight is developed through rigorous scientific and technical pursuit spanning decades," said GE Aerospace Research General Manager Joseph Vinciquerra. "We are ready to turn this investment into breakthroughs that will define the next era of aviation."

About two-thirds of the investment will go toward improving infrastructure, with the rest going toward technology and research equipment.

Site improvement projects are expected to begin immediately, the company said. It said research operations at the center will continue with minimal disruption through the construction process.
